XFree86 3.3.6について

XFree86 3.3.6は、FreeBSD(98) 4.2Rに標準でセットになっているX Window Systemです。

XFree86 3.3.6のインストール(98編)

FreeBSD(98) 4.2Rのインストール時の配布ファイルの選択で「X Window System」を含んだセットを選択すると自動的にインストールされます。
PC-9821V16の場合は、インストール時のXfree86配布ファイルの選択時にXサーバとしてXF98_TGUI(9TGU)を選択します。

XFree86 3.3.6の設定(/etc/XF86Config)

下記のXF86Configは、以前、FreeBSD(98) 3.4Rを使用した時に設定したもので、Section "Monitor"のHTimingsの設定については、画面表示が右にずれていたので、調整の上、デフォルトから変更しています。

Section "Screen"の「Depth」を8ビットに設定している理由については、下記ＭＬのスレッドを参照して下さい。

Xサーバへのリンク設定(/usr/X11R6/bin/X)

実際に使用するXサーバを「/usr/X11R6/bin/X」にシンボリクリンクを張ります。
# ln -s /usr/X11R6/bin/XF98_TGUI /usr/X11R6/bin/X
以上の設定が完了すれば、「startx」で、Xが起動されます。
