6月26日（米現地時間6月25日）に、「マイケル・ジャクソン」が急死したとのニュースが大々的に流れました。私自身は、彼にはそれほど思い入れがあった訳では無いので、大きなショックはありませんでした。彼が子供の頃の「ジャクソン5」のイメージが大きくて、ソロデビュー以降の歌はそれほど好きではありません。そんな中で、ライオネル・リッチーと共作した「ウイ・アー・ザ・ワールド（We Are The World）」は、私の好きな歌です。故人を偲んで、久しぶりに聴いてみました。参加メンバーがすごいですね。さすがアメリカ！です。
８２年のアルバム「スリラー」で売り上げの世界記録を打ち立て、「ポップの帝王」と称された米歌手マイケル・ジャクソンさんが２５日午後２時半（日本時間２６日午前６時半）ごろ、米ロサンゼルスのカリフォルニア大ロサンゼルス校（ＵＣＬＡ）医療センターで死去した。５０歳。（途中略）ジャクソンさんは５８年８月、米インディアナ州ゲーリー生まれ。６６年にジャーメインさんら４人の兄と結成したボーカルグループ「ジャクソン・ファイブ」が数々のコンテストで優勝し、１１歳のときにリードボーカルをつとめたシングル「帰ってほしいの」（６９年）で天才児としての評判を不動にした。ソロデビューは７１年。アルバム「スリラー」（８２年）が全世界で推定１億枚を売り上げるなど８０年代が絶頂期だった。シングル「バッド」「今夜はビート・イット」は日本でも大ヒット。ダンスステップ「ムーンウオーク」も流行させた。８５年にアフリカの貧困、飢餓救援のためにライオネル・リッチーと共作した「ウイ・アー・ザ・ワールド」にはスティービー・ワンダーら米音楽界のスーパースターが参加した。
